Training Log Dog With A Bone - Cbaw's rockin rollercoatser log. Immune deficiency.
written 218 days 18 hours 1 minutes ago by Cannonball

Training since the last log that finished (Early December) with illness resulted in a full 17 days missed training. Symptoms including coughing fits, vomiting, and general lethargy to the point that just keeping the body and its internal organs functioning were my main priority. The virus was quite possibly the nastiest I have encountered, for a number of reasons but mostly because it lured me into thinking I was ok to run, before throwing another nasty symptom into the mix.

Training tentatively starts Monday the 11th Jan

1mile jog + job interview, including presentation.

Tuesday 12th Jan

ILL again. Preparing for a different interview tomorrow. Result of yesterdays interview came through. REJECTION. I went to a lot of trouble researching my topic and practicing my presentation so this is a real pain. It was half-expected though. Such is the nature of the beast.

Wednesday 13th Jan

1mile jog + Interview. This could not have gone any better. Eating again - Good times.

Thursday 14th Jan

(am) 40minutes in the snow. Feel weak.

(pm) 2.5miles to the Industrial estate, with Cooperman, Austen Powers, and Kerr.
sesh: 8*1min on/1min jogging off 7miles total for evening all completed continuously. Snow melting. Nou coughing / felt human tonight. Moving surprisingly well. 12miles for the day.

Friday 15th Jan

70minutes run, some of the run completed with Cooperman. Felt 'ok'. 10minutes of run steady on the road.

Saturday 16th Jan

(am) 25minutes to Jordanhill with the packet. 5*3min efforts (grass), 1min jogging recovery. 20minutes trot home. Operating at approx 80%.

Sunday 17th Jan

In Rowardennan with E-Bot and her parents. Staying at the foot of Ben Lomond. Post-breakfast 70minutes run along part of the West Highland Way. (Hilly - as you might expect!)

Notes lifted from my other diary: Very few people out and about. Great views of snow-capped hills. Strangely mild. The under-foot conditions were good. I have a sketch, which fortunately eightlane reders will not see, as it is hardly of Van Gough proportions.

Monday 18th Jan

(am) 30minutes along the banks of Loch Lomond (I want to burst into song right about now)

(pm) I received news of last weeks second job interview. REJECTED. Totally gutted about this one as I thought it went well. I seemed to have a good rapport with the interview team. I passed the practical assessments. They talked about how impressed they were etc then BOOM… another REJECTION! I hit a major downer today. Quite depressed. I phoned and mailed to try and get feedback but as usual 'policy' gets in the way. No feedback will be given. I went down the human decency / principle road but that just seemed to antagonise them. I said I would pop into the offices and now they are using emotive language like 'refrain' from doing this etc. I feel like I have developed Aspergers syndrome on this one, in that, I am struggling to let it go. In part, this is because their company mission goes on about being customer focussed and having staff of the utmost integrity etc. I suggest they change their mission to something more befitting of the company re: 'if you email us with something we do not want to here will will most definetely NOT get back to you'. If I have to deal with more HR robots in the coming months I think I will be eightlane logging (if I am lucky) from jail.

Now to the evening training completed. I was in a bad mood so I did the following:
3.6miles Brownsburn Loop warm up then ran straight into the loop as hard as I could. 18minutes 31seconds. Suffered between 8-11mins then rallied well. Some light trotting to finish. Not bad considering the amount of training missed.

Tuesday 19th Jan

(am) 46minutes easy Bartlet run. I call it 'Bartlet' because it takes me around the Bartlet potato factory. I worked there back in the day. I developed significant pectorial girth during this phase of my life.

(pm) 2miles to the industrial estate. No track where I live and I'm too emotionally traumatised to deal with the general population right now, plus, it would mean spending money on petrol I don't have. Keeping the car on the road is the main priority at the moment.
The industrial estate is quiet and gives me what I need.
sesh: 12*45sec efforts with 45sec steady jogging recovery. I was trying to replicate something like 300/100 on the track. Felt quite good. 13miles for the day.

Wednesday 20th

(am) 64minutes with Daddy D Cross country on the road out and road on the way back. There was too much ice to come back the same way.

(pm) 43minutes steady with Kerr. 7miles according to GPS 43minutes 15secs. Quads heavy on uphill sections but apart from that I felt GREAT. 15miles total for the day. Kerr is training for a summer marathon. Think he has already run 2.27s - will check that out.

Thursday 21st Jan

(am) 20minutes jogging

(pm) 20minutes down to the industrial estate, with the packet, Kerr, Austen Powers, Cooperman, and Danny. There were six of us in total. Anyone fancies a 'Cumbernauld Endurance Session' - just give me a shout.

Sesh: 1min run, 1min jogging rec, 2min run, 2min jogging rec, 3min run, 3min jogging rec, 4min run, 3min jogging rec, 3min run, 2min jogging rec, 2min run, 1min jogging rec, 1min run, plus, 25minutes run home. 9-10miles for evening. Maybe around 12 for day.

Friday 22nd Jan

45minutes easy off road running

Saturday 23rd Jan

(am) 2miles trot to Dawshom Park (Glasgow) with the packet.
Sesh: 8*50sec hills with a walk back recovery. Chapping on the door of Lactic. Nice. Steady. 2miles along the canal to finish.

(pm) 4miles on the road in Glasgow (25minutes). 11miles for day.

Sunday 24th Jan

Rest

Monday 25th Jan

(am) 45minutes run - Palacerigg Park

(pm) 5miles steady with daddy d, plus, 2miles hard on my own. 13miles for day

Tuesday 26th Jan

2miles on road trot down to Scotstoun. (New track)
sesh: 10*400m with 100m jog (40-45secs approx) recovery. Seven of us doing the session. Davie G, Me, Daddy D, Packet, Rossco, Max, and Derek Gibb. In flats. First time on the track in errrrr well forever…

Times: (1) 66 (2) 65 (3) 67 (4) 67 (5) 67 (6) 66 (7) 68 (8) 67 (9) 66 (10) 62

Fairly smooth session. Enjoyed it. Bouncy. 2miles trot back to E-bots.

Wednesday 27th Jan

(am) 30minutes jogging.

(pm) Short trot to meet Stuart then 7miles, same loop as last week, but this week quicker 42minutes 15seconds, plus, a short trot home. Feel a little strange tonight. Throaty and bunged towards the end.

Thursday 28th Jan

(am) 41minutes 47seconds total jogging

(pm) 20minutes trot to the industrial estate with Kerr, Cooperman, and Danny.
Sesh: 4* 0.9miles (full industrial loop) with 2minutes recovery. (1) 4.44s (2) 4.32s (3) 4.30s (4) 4.17s

I am a bit groggy tonight - coughing a little but going remarkably well. Floaty, plus, 15minutes steady run home. 13miles for day.

Friday 29th January

Rest / ILL

Saturday 30th January

Rest / Ill

Sunday 31st January

Race:

Scottish 4k Champs. I said earlier in the week (when I was feeling good) I would do it so I stuck to it. This was a mistake. Reckon I was around 25th and going backwards from the start. I genuinely contemplated running off the course at the half way mark, such was my ill-feeling and sluggishness, but I said to myself I couldn't have a 'DNF' next to my name in a cross country race and made it my mission to just 'get round'. Big Dan took the title for Inverclyde. We were 4th or 5th team. I took the hit to not even finish in the medals - Aouch. Coughing my guts up at the end. Feel like I have relapsed back into December/January illness mode. Big up the packet who had one of his better runs over this kind of distance and young Derek who ran with us on Tuesday. He ran very well too.

Monday 1st FEB

Rest / ILL

Best wishes to all Eightlaners
